Create MSI packages – that is, in a nutshell, the functionality you can expect to get from ZOLA Software’s ZOLA MSI Repackager. If you get this tool, you will be able to take an existing installation setup and repackage it as an MSI package. If you get this tool, you will be able to create MSI packages that can be deployed as self-installing MSI installers.

Before you go get ZOLA MSI Repackager, make sure your PC meets this application’s system requirements: 3GHz processor or better, 4GB of RAM or more, 300MB of free disk space, local or domain admin rights, Windows operating system. It must be mentioned here that ZOLA MSI Repackager works with 32- and 64-bit Windows editions; that’s any edition from Windows XP up to Windows 8.

Download an installer, run it, follow the onscreen instructions presented by a setup wizard – these are the steps you must go through to install ZOLA MSI Repackager on a PC that meets the system requirements presented above. When you’re done with the installation and you run ZOLA MSI Repackager for the first time, you will be asked to pick a repository storage location for your projects.

After that you will be presented with the application’s interface. The nice thing about ZOLA MSI Repackager’s interface is that it provides support for skins. The default skin is called Neutral. From the Settings menu, the Application Skinning submenu, you can access lots of other skins: Acryl, Beijing, Calcium, Golden, Matrix, Nautilus, Topaz, Wood, and more.

ZOLA MSI Repackager features two means of creating a new project:
1 – Create a project by using a system snapshot; take a snapshot of files and registry systems, perform a before and after comparison. Please note that the trial version of ZOLA MSI Repackager allows you to take a snapshot a maximum of 15 times.
2 – Create a project based on manual input; via the project editor, you can manually add or edit specific project sources.

With ZOLA MSI Repackager you can create MSI packages for installation purposes as well as MSI packages for uninstallation purposes.

Pros

There is nothing complicated about getting ZOLA MSI Repackager up and running on a Windows-powered PC. ZOLA MSI Repackager has a user friendly interface that provides support for skins. There are two means of creating a new project: by using the snapshot module or by manually creating a project. Use ZOLA MSI Repackager to convert existing software installations to MSI packages; use ZOLA MSI Repackager to create install and uninstall MSI packages.

Cons

Trial limitations: the trial version is limited to 30 runs and 15 snapshots; nag screen.
